Australind artist Sharon Hinchliffe will transform the Simon Street wastewater pump station into art as part of the Splash of Colour Community Art Program.
The state government project aims to bring Water Corporation assets in highly visible locations to life and turn everyday water and wastewater electrical cabinets into public art pieces.
Hinchliffe said she had created murals and pieces throughout the South West but this was her first foray in Busselton.
She said she was excited to leave her colourful and quirky mark on the unusual blank canvas.
“I didn’t even know those boxes existed, they just blend into the background,” she said.
“They actually are a blank canvas and any situation where an artist gets to make their mark in the environment is a great thing.
“It also exposes people to art, which is not something they may see unless they seek out a gallery.”
Water minister Dave Kelly said it was great to see the program return to transform the dull grey cabinets into vibrant, water themed art after a successful South West trial last year.
“The feedback was so overwhelmingly positive, it has now been rolled out across Western Australia,” he said.
