There was a mammoth seven-metre storm swell last weekend with a few waves in the bay at Meelup and Point Piquet.
The largest day of the swell was a bit choppy due to the gale force winds and northerly direction. Saturday turned out to be the best day with fun waves on the points and beach breaks of Meelup.
Margaret River’s Jack Robinson has won a World Qualifying Event in Chile taking home a $10,000 cheque for his efforts and a valuable 1500 points for the tour rankings.
Robinson felt right at home surfing the slabby waves at La Punta, Chile and adapted to each day’s conditions getting barrelled during the first few days and took to the air during the finals with a rapid display of air reverses on all of his waves in the final.
“I just want to thank everyone for all the support, Iquique is an amazing place,” Robinson said.
“I’m super stoked I came, because I was a late entry and it was unexpected and just a spur of the moment decision and that’s how some of the best things happen in life. I’m glad I came. I love Chile.”
The Margaret River local will also be heading to Uluwatu in Bali for the completion of the Margaret River Pro and is always in contention to win when the waves are hollow and good quality.
Forecast:
Thursday will have west-south-westerly winds a three-metre swell, while Friday sees the winds drop off and clean up with a solid 3.4 metre swell.
The weekend looks good with light offshore winds with a two to 2.5m swell.
