Busselton Hospice Care Inc is seeking community members to help develop the not-for-profit organisation’s fundraising capacity.
The organisation relies on donations and funding to operate.
The current programs offered include volunteer support, bereavement support service and complementary therapy.
All are volunteer run, however, the funding is required for training, coordination and management of the programs by three staff members.
Board member and Busselton general practitioner Ingrid Hanemaaijer said the organisation needed to increase its funding streams to ensure these programs continued and for more programs to be created.
“The Hospice Inc strategic objective is to further branch out to provide support services in the community to enable people and their families facing end of life issues to be informed, supported and helped by their own community so they can stay at home if this is their wish,” she said.
“This is a unique opportunity for people with creativity, conviction and good marketing skills to help raise funds where they are very much needed right in their own community.”
Currently, the hugely successful annual Gail Kearney Memorial Busselton Hospice Golf Day is the only major fundraising drives held for the community organisation.
Dr Hanemaaijer said Hospice Inc had experienced a decrease in funding in recent years.
“The drop in funding is most likely due to community understanding that the nursing and medical service of hospice is now under state funding and therefore funds are no longer required,” she said.
“However, there is no government funding available to not-for-profits to provide palliative care support to the community by other social networks.”
