Mentally Healthy WA will be helping Busselton’s youth to increase their resilience and provide advice to ward off any mental health problems.
The Act-Belong-Commit team will be visiting Busselton on Tuesday June 12 to run an interactive workshop for youth aged 16-24.
The workshop aims to teach youth how they can boost their mental health and help those around them.
Young people aged 16-24 are the most at risk of developing a mental health problem, with one in four young people experiencing a mental illness each year in Australia.
The ‘Youth Connectors’ workshop is based on the Act-Belong-Commit principles for good mental health, and aims to empower young people to help their peers get involved in mentally healthy activities.
Mentally Healthy WA Darci Miller said the idea was to have young people attend the workshop and become a local source of information about how to boost mental health.
“We know that young people are most likely to turn to their friends for support when things aren’t going so well, which is why it’s so important that we upskill young people to support each other and encourage each other to do things to be mentally healthy,” she said.
Young people are encouraged to get involved in the Act-Belong-Commit Youth Connectors workshop on Tuesday 12 June from 4:15pm to 6:30pm at the Youth and Community Activity Building 21 Foreshore Parade, Busselton WA 6280.
