A petrol bowser in the South West has inspired the latest single from singer-songwriter Duncan Saige.
Saige, who grew up in Margaret River, was filling his car with petrol in the Busselton area when he noticed the pump was making a weird beat sound.
“I recorded it on my phone as a joke and then it literally inspired the whole song,” he told the Mail.
“I sampled it, slowed it down, added a drum track and it came up really quickly.
“Traditionally, my songwriting process is pretty slow, I rehearse it, jam it out and play it live but I recorded this straight away, it just felt right and I didn’t over think it.”
The result of this creative flow was the track ‘Pumping Up My Life’, which Saige is touring around the southern end of the state.
Lyrically, the song discusses over indulgence and the need to fit in to a fast-paced world.
The Stillwater Giants frontman will play The Prince of Wales Hotel in Bunbury on June 29, Clancy’s Fish Pub in Dunsborough on July 29, and Settlers Tavern in Margaret River on August 10.
