Kmart Busselton store manager Ted Carter has come full circle.
His appointment as the leader of the new store marks his return to the region, after starting his retail career only 103 kilometres away just under 40 years ago.
At 15, he was working the check-outs and stacking the shelves at Coles supermarket in his hometown of Collie.
Now, he is in charge of the South West’s largest store and 119 new Kmart team members.
Mr Carter moved over to the Kmart brand at 18 when he was offered a trainee manager opportunity at Kmart Midland.
This step was the beginning of his 36 year Kmart journey, in which, he has held a variety of store management roles across WA, New South Wales and even in New Zealand.
This year will be his 39th with Wesfarmers.
Meeting Ted, it is clear he is passionate about the company and the community it creates within itself.
“It’s a great place to work,” he said.
“There are great people, great development opportunities, and a great culture.”
Although he has been involved in many store openings, he said he was still just as excited as his new team.
“We cannot wait to officially open our doors and provide this wonderful Busselton community with our low priced everyday products,” he said.
Kmart Busselton is located in the Power Centre next to Aldi supermarket.
The grand opening celebrations on June 28 will begin at 7.15am with speeches.
The first 250 customers to make a purchase will receive a free gift bag.
Free face painting for children will be on offer from 8am to 12pm.
