Making headlines, the Corruption and Crime Commission was asked to investigate the leaking of a valuation on land Busselton Shire Council was proposing to sell to fund the new civic precinct.
Parts of the Busselton Jetty peeled off during wild, stormy weather which hammered Busselton. Large chunks of wood floated on to shore in front of the Goose Restaurant and the adjacent beachfront. One piece was nearly 5m long.
The Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor director Barry Sargeant refused Busselton shire president Wes Hartley’s request to investigate a brothel that had been operating in Busselton.
Dunsborough Police were battling drivers on the roads, with numerous offenders driving unauthorised, or over the alcohol limit.
In Sport, the South West won the country football championships with Brad Kearney as captain of the side. The South West defeated Avon in the A grade final by 63 points.
In hockey, Busselton Hockey Stadium Club was announced as the host for the 2008 Australian Country Championships.
