Busselton sailor Caelin Winchcombe keeps going strength-to-strength after he sailed into third place at the 2018 Laser Radial Men's World Championship in Germany.
It was not the only world championship Winchcombe recently competed in. He also traveled to Poland for the Laser Standard Under 21 World Championships where he finished in ninth spot.
Winchcombe said while his goal was to win the competitions he was pleased he did well in the world championships.
“It is sick, I like traveling and you get to meet new people and make friends with people who you met at the last event,” he said.
He has now competed in five world championships and he hopes to one day make it into an Australian Olympic team.
“That is my long term goal, but there are a lot of other steps in the pathway to get there,” he said.
Winchcombe trained heavily before the competition spending four days in the gym and three days sailing to prepare for the events.
He is also about to enter his first year of university where he will study chemistry.
