The Busselton Football Club league side will trade in their black and white stripes this weekend for special one-off blue and white jumpers for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Club treasurer Shontelle Bowman will also take part in the foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
The events are an act of support for three-year-old Busselton boy Oliver Roberts, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia earlier this year.
Oliver is the middle child of Brant and Justine Roberts, the younger brother to Indiana, 4, and older brother to four-month-old Willow, who was just three weeks old when he was diagnosed.
Currently, Oliver is receiving chemotherapy every 10 days. He will be in treatment for three years.
The young family had to relocate to Perth upon Oliver’s diagnosis, as they need to be within 20 minutes from the hospital.
Ms Bowman said the club wanted to show their support for the young family.
“Dave Roberts, Brant’s dad, is a life member of the club and has helped the club out immensely since I’ve been involved,” she said.
“We just thought it was an opportunity to let them know we are all thinking of them and I’m happy to go bald, it is hair, it grows back.
“I wish there was more I could do. I honestly would do more but this is all I can do.”
Ms Bowman said she hoped to raise $5000 for the foundation.
“I’m about 75 per cent there,” she said.
“Anything raised is great but to reach that mark would be fantastic.”
The specialised jumpers, which have Oliver’s name on them, will be auctioned off after the game, along with a silent auction of goods and services provided by the club’s sponsors
Earlier in the year, F45 Vasse held a fundraiser for the family.
Ms Roberts said the family was floored by the community’s generosity.
“It has been absolutely amazing, we’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received,” she said.
“We can’t thank everyone enough.”
Ms Roberts said the diagnosis was life-changing and the family remained positive.
“Oliver has a really good prognosis,” she said.
“They tested him after the first month and they had the results they wanted.”
Busselton Magpies will take on the Carey Park Panthers on Saturday, July 28 at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.
The Colts will kick off at 11am, Reserves at 1.10pm, Women at 3.20pm and League bounce down at 4.40pm.
The World’s Greatest Shave and auctions will follow the final match.
