Busselton Swimming Club members Ella Butler and Maddison Johnston-Walker have their bags packed and are off to the chilly waters of Hobart. The girls have been selected in the WA State Team participating in the Schoolsport Australia Swimming Championships commencing this week.
Maddison, a Year 10 student at St Mary Mackillop Catholic College and Ella who attends GMAS, are both excited and proud to be representing not just Western Australia but also their club and their school. Between them the girls will swim more than 20 events, including individual events and relays. This will be Maddison’s third Schoolsport Australia Championship and Ella’s second. Both girl’s were also selected last year but were unable to travel to the Championships in Adelaide as the event was too close to the WA State Long Course Championships, an event that was integral to their qualifying for National Championships in Sydney earlier this year.
Representing a State or Territory is an achievement. Each year Schoolsport Australia provides representative competition for over 6000 students. The Program provides students with not only sporting opportunities, but also educational, cultural and social benefits.
