The integral role Activ plays in keeping Busselton beautiful has been recognised with the disability service provider awarded a new contract with the City of Busselton.
Activ has worked in conjuction with the City of Busselton Parks and Gardens division in a horticulture, mowing and area beautification capacity since April 2010.
On July 25, City of Busselton councillors unanimously voted through the new three year contract, which included an option to be extended.
City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley said Activ had demonstrated quality service over the years and were an asset to the community.
“The teams are supervised by qualified staff and given many of the team members have been with Activ for several years, they are experienced with the city’s requirements,” he said.
“They play an important maintenance role here in the city and we are happy to work with them.”
Activ is WA's largest disability service provider.
The not-for-profit employs 1000 people with disabilities throughout the state.
In the South West, the organisation provides meaningful employment to more than 100 people living with disability in Bunbury and Busselton.
Besides property care for the City of Busselton, Activ supported employees also work with a South West soap producer, a number of wineries and in the timber industry.
Activ Foundation South West operations manager Anthony Bamford said the award of the General Parks and Gardens Maintenance Services tender was a positive outcome for Activ employees and the Busselton community.
“It is fantastic that the City of Busselton have been so proactive in promoting inclusion under the leadership of mayor Grant Henley,” he said.
“We have had and will now continue to have strong cooperation with the City of Busselton, the results of which can be seen in the high standards of maintenance achieved in the regions parks and gardens.
“We look forward to continuing this work into the future.”
