Geraldton served up a big swell for the final State surfing competition, presented by Sunsmart and Surfing WA, on July 14 and 15.
Two solid days of surfing by the state’s best surfers saw them bust-out in big swell and challenging conditions.
Yallingup Boardriders’ junior members took on the conditions without hesitation and came away with four places.
Two junior members bagged a state title for 2018, Emma Cattlin won the under 18 girls competition and Mav Wilson won the under 12 title.
Cattlin has won the under 18 division for the second year in a row, showing her raw talent and power beyond her years.
“I am happy to take out back to back titles, it’s a good feeling and I can’t wait for the nationals in South Australia” Cattlin said.
Two other members finished on the podium, both with a third place.
Otis North placed in the under 14 competition and Remy North in the under 12.
Emma and Otis both scored a place in the West Australian state team and will represent WA when they take on Australia best junior surfers later in the year.
Yallingup vice president Shane Smith was impressed by the results the junior members achieved.
“It was great to see such a strong result for Yallingup Boardrider junior competitors who battled it out all year against some of the State’s best,” Smith said.
“I was stoked to see the on display across all divisions. Well done to all YBR groms!”.
