The City of Busselton has welcomed 11 students to the city as part of the Busselton Sugito Student Exchange program.
At an official reception on August 6, students were introduced by their host student and given a welcome gift, which included a plush possum toy.
The event was attended by WA Consul-General of Japan Tatsuo Hirayama and his wife Sachiko.
Mayor Grant Henley said the city was pleased to host the students, especially in the 25th year of the program.
“This exchange program paved the way for the establishment of the sister city friendship between Sugito and Busselton,” he said.
“To our visiting students, we hope you embrace this experience and form life-long friendships.”
The exchange program is facilitated by the Busselton and Sugito Sister City Association.
Mr Henley acknowledged the volunteer group’s efforts, which have been internationally recognised in a commendation from the Japanese foreign minister.
