From 2pm on Wednesday, August 15 people in Busselton, Dunsborough and Bunbury can start booking the ride sharing service Uber.
It is the second ride sharing service to start in the region after hi Oscar launched in March last year.
Uber WA manager Kate Debenham said ride sharing was different in every city and in WA’s South West the organisation expected riders to be most active on weekends when people want to ‘ditch the keys’ and enjoy some drinks on a night out, as well as around peak tourism periods and major events.
“We’ve been pleased that on-demand transport has been embraced by residents in WA - including support from the Parliament - which provides us with further confidence to expand to other areas of the state,” she said.
“We’re looking for interested locals to sign up for the opportunity to earn extra income with the flexibility and dignity that comes with being their own boss.
“We also know there is high underemployment in regional WA, and believe the opportunity to make additional money driving on the app will be a welcome option for many.
“While the process to obtain a government accreditation in WA is relatively simple, it can take up to six weeks to complete the relevant background and safety checks so we’re keen to hear from interested locals now."
