Busselton resident Joe D'Agostino will take his Hot Wheels car in this year’s Variety WA Bash to raise money and help make a difference to the lives of WA children in need.
It is the 30th year of the Variety Bash in WA, which will see participants take on a week long course which leaves Optus Stadium on Saturday then heads down south.
Mr D’Agostino will be driving in the rally for the fifth time, and his first in more than a decade, hoping to attend more Variety events in the future to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
The bash will take Mr D’Agostino and his Hot Wheels through non-gazetted roads, bush and gravel roads on his journey down South from Perth.
“Places where you probably should not take a two wheel drive vehicle, but that is where they send us,” he said.
“It is well supported by four-wheel drivers with mechanics to assist us if there are any breakdowns and medics too, but hopefully we do not need those.
“The bash is like the reward for all the work through the year in terms of the fundraising and everything else.”
Mr D’Agostino picked the Hot Wheels theme for his car because he thought it would be something children would be drawn to, which is what the Variety Bash cars were themed at.
“And it does look like a little toy car,” he said.
McDonald’s Busselton have sponsored Mr D’Agostino in this year’s Variety Bash, owner Megan McMullen said they were more than happy to help.
“We are happy to support any sort of charity which helps children – Ronald McDonald House is a big supporter of looking after families and helping out when children are sick – we think this is a great cause too,” she said.
