Last week Langton’s Classification VII announced Australia’s 136 best performing wines with Leeuwin Estate Art Series Chardonnay sitting in the first ever heritage five category.
This consists of the very best wines within the exceptional category. Joining Leeuwin in the exception category is Cullen Diana Madeline Cabernet Merlot and Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon.
Margaret River Wine Association chief executive officer Amanda Whiteland said it was fantastic to see the quality of Margaret River wines being recognised.
Ms Whiteland said Cullen Wines Kevin John Chardonnay, Deep Woods Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay and Xanadu Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon were all named in the Langton’s Classification for the first time this year.
“Great to see 4 out of the 13 new entrants coming from our region which produces less than 2 per cent of Australia’s wine.”
Margaret River strongly performs across the outstanding and excellent categories.
New editions Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon and Vasse Felix Tom Cullity join Pierro Chardonnay and Woodlands (family series) Cabernet Sauvignon in the outstanding category.
In the excellent category Cullen Wines Kevin John Chardonnay, Deep Woods Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay and Xanadu Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon join Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon and Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon.
