Cornerstone Christian College year 11 ATAR English students participated in the school’s tradition of a ‘Jane Austin Evening’ last Thursday.
The purpose of the event is to give students an opportunity to experience something of what it was like to live in Jane Austen’s world, which aligns with their study of the novel, Persuasion.
The college function room was converted into a Regency period dining venue complete with appropriate décor - and most importantly, lit entirely by candle light.
The students enjoyed a traditional English meal which was prepared by friends, family, students and staff, and was served to the 'gentry', whilst interspersed with poetic readings, dancing and genteel discussions.
The Hospitality students donned maids outfits, and served the prepared food in the manner of the era.
The college principal played Lord Maynard on the night while Head Boy Elijah Tilbee was His Royal Highness and Head Girl, Taesha Lane was Her Royal Highness and they were all treated in the manner they would have experienced in the day.
