Busselton cyclist Courtland Wood has made the WA state cycling team and will compete in the Australia Junior Road Championship in Bunbury this weekend.
As part of the championships, Wood will compete in three events including an individual 14 kilometre time trial, a 67km road race and two rounds in a criterium.
It is the first time Wood has made the state team, which he said, he was really excited about and had been training hard since last year’s national event.
“I have been on a strict program six days a week and seven days a week in the gym,” he said.
“The first time I went to the nationals it was quite a new experience, the second time I was more comfortable and relaxed with it, this time should be just as good.”
Wood has been competing for three years and is now training with the South West Academy of Sport in Bunbury, he hopes to establish a career in cycling and one day compete in the Tour de France.
“SWAS has been helping heaps,” he said.
