The Dunsborough Yallingup Mulies are the 2018 Onshore Cup premiers after defeating the Busselton Bombers in a tough match on the weekend.
Throughout the season, the sides have dueled with results going both ways.
It was the Mulies who pipped the Bombers last time they faced each other in the semi final which earned them the home grand final.
The defeat was a shock for the Bombers who had dominated the competition up until the finals.
It was a close contest and the final seemed to mirror the result.
Just eight points separated the sides at full-time, with the Mulies taking the match 6.5 (41) to the Bombers’ 5.3 (33).
Mulies player Alex Townsend was named best on ground.
Busselton Bombers captain Shay Pascall was gracious in defeat.
“It was a very hard fought match, both sides gave it 110 per cent and had the same goal,” he said.
“Unfortunately, Dunsborough Yallingup just dug a little deeper than us and came away with the goods.”
Pascall said there was a healthy rivalry between the clubs which ensured it was always a good match for spectators.
“I enjoy playing the Mulies, it is always in good spirits and I have a lot of respect for the playing group and the staff,” he said.
“It is a great match-up when we go head to head.”
Busselton lost Josh Fleay in the second quarter with a knee injury and in the third player/coach Troy Docking broke his leg.
Pascall said the club wouldn’t blame the loss on injuries.
“It could have hurt us but in that fourth quarter the Mulies got some quick goals, and so did we, it could have been anyone's at that point,” he said.
Aaron Cooper kicked three for the Mulies, while teammates Ben Danaher, Clint Thompson and Blake Wilson had one to their name.
For the Bombers, it was one a piece for Cameron Hyde, Kim Harper, Dennis Amour, John Blincow and James Daykin.
