The first Sail Into Life for the 2018/19 season was an extra special occasion with the unveiling a brand new sailing dinghie.
The Lady Rose was launched in near-perfect sailing conditions at Port Geographe Marina on October 10.
The boat, which is worth upwards of $10,000, was donated by Rotarian Rose Harrington.
Sail Into Life is a Rotary project which involves Rotarians, Geographe Bay Yacht Club volunteers and volunteers from the community.
The program provides participants with the opportunity to experience the joy and freedom of sailing, regardless of their abilities.
Ms Harrington said she loved seeing people’s faces light up when they set sail.
“I’ve been involved with Sail Into Life for five years and I have seen how much people enjoy it,” she said.
“I just wanted to put something into it because I could and because I get as much enjoyment out of it as they do.”
Sail Into Life coordinator David Eyres said the extra boat would be a huge help this season.
“We were getting 32 clients on a Wednesday so an extra boat will enable us to get through everyone a bit quicker and less time for them to have to wait,” he said.
People with a disability, able-bodied people including seniors or children who simple want to experience sailing are welcome to attend Sail Into Life on Wednesdays at Port Geographe Marine from 9am.
The cost of a sail is $5 to cover the cost of fuel and maintenance costs for the mandatory rescue boat.
