With the arrival of warmer weather the City of Busselton’s Environmental Health team have been busy out Fighting the Bite.
Mosquitoes can significantly impact the health and lifestyle of residents and visitors to the South West, with mosquito borne viruses of Ross River and Barmah Forrest Virus regularly reported in the Geographe region.
For those who contract these viruses the recovery times can be lengthy and have a heavy impact on their livelihood.
In response, the City of Busselton has a comprehensive mosquito management program incorporating monitoring, treatment and communication activities.
A number of information displays have been erected and businesses have been engaged to assist with delivering the Fight the Bite message through the use of reusable coffee cups.
When out and about in mosquito prone areas, residents are advised to wear long loose fitting clothing and apply mosquito repellent.
