Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association reigning premiers Yallingup Oddbods believe their junior structure will ensure quality cricket from the club for years to come.
The club’s philosophy is to allow young players to rise through the ranks and into the higher grades so they can play at a level that challenges them.
Examples of this are teenage batsman Troyden Thorp and bowler Ky Spowart.
This season, Troyden and Ky have secured themselves in the club’s top squad.
For 16-year-old Troyden, it will be his second year in A grade.
In 2017, he was the leading run scorer across all competitions with 588 runs.
Ky, 15, played two A grade games last summer, including the preliminary final and grand final.
He was also fourth in B grade for wickets taken, with 30 to his name.
Club captain Ben Payne, who has 150 A grade games and 240 A grade wickets to his name, said it was great to foster up-and-comers, and commended their dedication to the sport.
