Saving Animals from Euthanasia, (SAFE Inc), has been voted Outstanding Rescue Group 2018, in the inaugural Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards.
The not-for-profit, which has two South West branches – one in Busselton and the other in Bunbury, was founded in the Pilbara in 2003.
The goal of the organisation is to save healthy companion animals from unnecessary euthanasia by fostering, desexing and rehoming them.
The Jetpets Companion Animal Rescue Awards program recognises inspiring examples of dedication to the rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals in Australia.
SAFE founder Sue Hedley said winning the national award was recognition of SAFE’s dedicated volunteer teams.
“It’s a huge honour to receive this award when there are so many dedicated, hard-working rescue groups across the country all doing excellent work,” she said.
“I am especially proud of SAFE volunteers who do the hard yards, sometimes in challenging circumstances to ensure healthy rehomable animals are not euthanised.
“The personal rewards are enormous, it’s life-saving work and our foster care program makes it possible.”
SAFE averages over 300 companion animals in foster care each month and has saved over 23,000 animals since the organisation began.
The Busselton branch, which formed in 2006, has rehomed 43 cats and 17 dogs this year.
SAFE Busselton welcomes new volunteers and foster carers. The branch is also currently seeking a Cat Coordinator and Fundraising Coordinator.
