Not many 12-year-olds can say they have reached the top-tier of their chosen sport, but Busselton’s Charlee Langridge can.
She and her partner, eight-year-old Silkwood Top Notch (affectionately known as Weenie), are a formidable duo in the horse show circuit.
The pair recently claimed the title of Champion in the small show hunter pony category of the Perth Royal Show.
This follows a strong performance at Equestrian Western Australia Horse of the Year where they were the Runner Up Childs Medium Show Hunter Pony and 2nd Runner Up Medium Show Hunter pony.
Over the next month, the pair have some big shows ahead.
The duo will first compete in the Victorian Show Horse Extravaganza on November 24 and 25, before taking on the Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships from November 29 to December 1.
Charlee, who describes Weenie as a family member, said she was feeling confident heading into the competitions due to their recent show success.
Her Mum, Racquel believes Charlee and Weenie have what it takes to be the top three in Australia.
She said a lot of adults found Weenie hard to handle but after two years Charlee had developed a strong bond with the mare.
“Everyone raves about Weenie and Charlee is riding amazingly,” she said.
“Charlee is also riding a thoroughbred in jumping, I think she could go professional as a show jumper.
“She is a pretty great little rider so I hope she continues.”
The family are hosting two fundraisers to support their journey to the Eastern States competitions.
The first is a movie night on October 30.
The movie, Halloween, will be screened. Tickets are $25 and include a light supper, small popcorn and a drink.
The second event is a quiz night on November 3 at Busselton Bowling Club.
Tickets are $15 and the quiz tables are for ten people.
Tickets can be purchased by direct debit to R Langridge, BSB: 036123, account number: 449523, with your name as a reference and identifying the event.
