Busselton tourism stalwart, Clive Johnson, has retired from the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association after decades of service.
Last week the organisation announced a new-look board of directors, following the organisation’s annual general meeting.
Chairman Trent Bartlett took the opportunity to acknowledge the longstanding commitment of retiring deputy chair, Mr Johnson.
“Clive served as Vice President for 15 years, and a further 17 years as President in the Busselton Tourist Bureau, Cape Naturaliste Tourism Association and the Geographe Bay Tourism Association before joining the MRBTA Board as Deputy Chair,” he said.
“He has also been heavily involved with the Busselton Jetty, Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Top Tourist Parks of Australia, dedicating thousands of volunteer hours in his pursuit to advance tourism in the region.
“Clive was instrumental in the formation of MRBTA and 2016 he was awarded the Sir David Brand Medal at the WA Tourism Awards in recognition of his contribution to the Western Australian tourism industry.”
Mr Bartlett said the board received seven nominations for five vacant positions ahead of the vote.
“Each [nomination was] of a very high calibre,” he said.
Four existing board members were re-elected – Janine Carter of Voyager Estate, David Willcox of Common Ground Trails, Keith Warrick of Eagle Bay Brewing Co, and Peter Gordon of Equinox Bar & Restaurant.
Margaret River Guest House proprietor Debbie Noonan was the only newly elected member to the board.
Following the AGM the MRBTA board appointed Mr Bartlett as chair and Janine Carter as deputy chair for a period of one year.
Mr Bartlett congratulated Ms Carter on the deputy appointment and
“We are looking forward to working with you for another year as we strive to establish the Margaret River Region as the most highly recommended tourism destination in Western Australia.”
