The 2018/19 Geographe Outrigger season has started and the club are looking for new members who would like to join them for a paddle on Saturday mornings.
With great conditions on the water, the club averages three canoes per training session on Geographe Bay in a 42 foot, 6-person canoe.
Outrigging is a great way to keep fit whilst paddling. It can be done as a competitive sport or socially for fun and fitness.
The club recently headed to Eagle Bay where they launched a 12-person canoe and paddled out to see the whales.
Club member Debbie Merriman, who is on a teacher exchange program from Canada, said it was one of the most incredible events she had participated in since joining the club last year.
‘It really doesn’t get much better than this, being so close to those magnificent creatures, plus it’s snowing back home so I’m loving the weather here,” she said.
If you would like to find out more or join the club for a paddle, head down to the club shed at the Geographe Bay Yacht Club, 1 King Street, Busselton each Saturday morning at 8am.
Paddlers generally wear board shorts, a rashie, hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle.
Geographe has an excellent juniors program and has one of the largest junior memberships in WA, they paddle out at 9am.
