As the mid season break nears, the touch football league were starting to see patterns from some of their main players, however a few disruptions to usual personnel have put up some interesting results this week.
The last two rounds saw ladder leaders Dungbeetles continue their unbeaten run with a couple of closer games, beating You’re It 9-6 in round 8, then in round 9 proving too good for The Untouchables 7-4.
This included one of the best solo efforts of the season by Drew Joines with a length of the field run, evading almost the entire You’re It team to score late in the game.
It was a mixed bag for the second placed Big Maks.
Round 8 saw them to a comfortable 12-2 win over the Bush Chooks, with a typical high scoring game from Jethro Barraclough netting him a game-high five touchdowns.
However, it was far from a solo effort as Camilla Culnane, Lauren Mirco and Liana Perrella all had a good impact on the game.
Round 9 however, saw the DynoWhites bounce back from a heavy loss in round 8 to beat Big Maks playing without a couple of their mainstays, 10-5.
DynoWhites welcomed back the steady head of Tiarn Paulin and the pace of Brendan Thomson who scored four times to cause one of the bigger upsets of the season.
Other round 8 results included a big Band of Misfits win over the undermanned Dynowhites.
While he didn’t trouble the scorers, Clint Dodd played a controlling game, setting up a few scoring opportunities for others.
The Untouchables and Mariners played out a 3-3 draw, in a game characterised by the defensive efforts and some quick runs by Josh Alcorn, and some creative play by Matthew Welburn.
Other round 9 results included a high scoring 9-9 draw between the Mariners and You’re It, and another Liam Hughes inspired effort to see Band of Misfits over the Bush Chooks 8-5.
The league were thrilled to welcome new partners Darleen’s bar, which will reward some players with a thirst quenching gift from one of Busselton’s newest watering holes.
