Busselton Senior High School Year 11 students raced around town in a bid to be named the winners of this year’s Great Amazing Race.
Four teams donned their team colours after a motivational speech from pincipal Dan Couzic who judged the students costumes and bike decorations which saw the red team take full points.
Spicy Chillies, in red, consisted of Bella Lange, Holly Johnson, Georgia Mitchell, Alyssa Campbell and Caitlin Hewitt. The team were accompanied by Mr Ligtermoet on his bike.
The green team was named DX with Joel Avery on the bike and team members Nicolas Avery, Josh Waikato, Ryley Broadbent, Jack Lowe and Jesse Brockman.
The blue team was named Mike with Ms Cooper on the bike and team members Lillian Gordan, Emily Keen, Isabel Graham, Tom Gray and Conner Dallachy.
The yellow team was named Sunnyvale with Ms Yates on the bike and team members John Nguyen, Jess Kinninmont, Toby Weekes and Hemi Leef.
The first stop was Geographe Primary School where teams had to sing a nursery rhyme before they headed to the leisure centre to shoot hoops blindfolded.
Back at the high school, students were then required to find objects in bottles full of rice, make a smoothie and solve a jigsaw puzzle.
On the way teams collected golf balls, with students scrambling to find the last of the golf balls on the Busselton Jetty.
Students then did a blind taste test and once they guessed the correct food they were treated to a morning tea enjoying watermelon, strawberries, cake and shortbread.
Teams had to sort out their activity cards and decide where to go and what to do first. The activities had to be done around town and consisted of jumping off the jetty catching a ball, singing the national anthem over the PA in Woolworths, posting Ms Haggarty a birthday card, using the public library, planking in Mitchell Park and using a phone box.
As Ms Haggarty’s phone rang throughout the afternoon she answered giving the answer to when the race ends and where to meet - 2pm at Signal Park, don’t be late.
As 2pm neared the students raced around trying to get to Signal Park on time, but of course the boys in the green team were late.
Once all the teams arrived the class and the supervisors feasted on Subway before the winners were announced.
This year’s winners were the yellow team Sunnyvale with supervisor Ms Yates. The red team Spicy Chillies came second followed by the blue team Mike in third and the green team DX in fourth place.
The Year 11 recreation class of 2018, they thanked Ms Haggarty for organising the day and for making it lots of fun, but mostly they thanked her for the shortbread.
The students also thanked the supervisors Mr Ligtermoet, Ms Cooper, Ms Yates and Joel Avery for riding around Busselton on their bikes with their team.
They also thanked the businesses that were approached on the day and apologised to Woolworths for their not so amazing singing. The class appreciated all the effort that went into making the day possible.
