It was just another marvelous week for cricket in round seven of the Busselton T20 competition. The first game of the round had the Match Fixers up against the Son’s of Pitches.
The Fixers are holding up the ladder with 15 points, while the Son’s are sitting in fourth position with 30 points and a run rate of 7.62.
Batting first, the Match Fixers’ skipper Justin Docking opened with Kent Perkins and these two put on an unbeaten opening partnership of 44 before Docking retired with 25 after hitting a massive 6 out of the ground.
Perkins also retired with 25 but not before Bailey Coshett was dismissed for 3.
Young Bailey Kelly hit 25 to also retire while Ben Hall, 14, and Glenn Van Sheik, 17, were the only others to hit double figures.
Jamie Bornelli took 2 for 13, Luke Howlett, 2 for 19 and Phil Watts, 1 for 10 the pick of the bowlers for the Pitches.
The Match Fixers made 7 for 157 from their 20 overs.
Watt’s continued his good form with the ball to open the batting with Surrell, 19, and retire on 28, hitting a huge 6 on the last ball he faced.
Cam Hyde hit a 17 ball 15 while Dan Wilde a 16 ball 28 not out. Tom Begley came and went for 3, Craig Bassell a 17 ball 16, and Dennis Armour a 12 to get the Son’s close to victory.
Jamie Bornelli, 12 not out saw the Son’s home with 2 overs to go.
Game 2 saw the Heavy Rollers, fresh off a dominant victory over the Bin Chooks last week, hosting the Fine Legs at the Vasse Sporting Complex.
Batting first, the Rollers skipper Paul Keen continued his good form with an unbeaten 29, third time retired in as many weeks; while Glen Anderson hit 22 before being dismissed by fellow chalky Ben Horrocks.
Chris Wright, 17, Jamie Terkildsen, 20 and Glenn Waterhouse, 14, kept the run rate at 8 an over. Some late innings hitting was required but didn’t eventuate, and the Rollers set a below par 140 for victory.
Ben Horrocks the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 19 from his 2 overs, and what must be said, performs better in purple than his native yellow of the Lemons.
Scadds, 13, and Gav Noney, 12, opened up in the run chase and were both dismissed from a stunning first over from “10 AM” Glenn Waterhouse, (3 for 8 from 2 overs), to have the score 2 for 25 after the 5th over.
Dave Barnes took a bot of stick from his team mates and also the opposition batsmen with 13 from his first over while his brother, Mick, did the family proud with only 4 from his first over.
Skipper Keen couldn’t match his batting exploits and went for 13 from his first over and when Heslewood was hit for 11, the Fine Legs were 2 for 69 from the first 8 overs.
Darren Cummins, retiring on 25 before coming back later in the innings to finish with an unbeaten 36; and Justin Chandler, also retiring on 25 before coming back to hit an unbeaten 37, saw the Legs out of trouble and to the 20th over.
The last over of the match was simple. 11 runs, 1 wicket, 1 over. Glen Anderson the bowler.
Cummins and Chandler the batsmen and were seeing the ball well. Two singles off the first 2 balls before a dot ball had the Fine Legs needing 9 from 3. Cummins then hit a 2 to need 7 from 2.
Cometh the moment, cometh the man. Cummins then blasted a 4 to require 3 from the last ball to win then the unthinkable…..Anderson bowled a wide to require 2 from the last.
Cummins proceeded to hit the winning runs from the last ball to complete another brilliantly close match.
This took the Fine Legs to fifth spot, (with a game in hand still) while the Rollers slipped to sixth.
Wednesday night. Overcast, drizzling, grey. Not the conditions you expect for the quintessentially Australian sport. But the teams were keen, and a game proceeded.
The Jacks of All Trades took on the Swingers and the Swingers opened the batting. Swingers by name and Swingers by nature.
Bailey Sanford and Tye Denton took on the bowling and took 9 off Tim’s first over and 12 from Lacky’s first to have the Swingers 25 from 3 overs before Sanford was dismissed for 16.
Denton was joined by Tom Begley and these two blasted 28 not out and 25 not out respectively.
Chinnery was dismissed in the 12th over to have the Swingers 2 for 89.
Hawthorn superstar Tom Mitchell, 3, Misich, 4, and Brodie Howell, 16, all came and went. Aiden Fraser blasted three 4’s and a huge 6 to retire on 27 and Brodie Ronald four 4’s to retire on 25.
Toby Newlands, 1 not out, and Marc Randell, 2 not out, took the total to 5 for 170, and an uphill battle was to be had by the Jacks.
