Christmas is a great time of year with holidays, family time, rest, relaxation and lots of sunny days.
It is also a busy time for those of us in the emergency services.
There is some basic advice we at St John Ambulance would like to get across so we can all enjoy a safe and happy break.
Our roads get very busy at this time of year.
If you are going to be driving be sure to belt up, don’t consume alcohol, stay alert and take regular breaks.
Consider stopping for a rest or change drivers if you are getting sleepy.
Your ultimate aim should be to get to your destination safely.
Water safety is also very important in our region.
If you are celebrating around the pool, by the beach or river, make sure there’s someone responsible around who can do CPR, especially if there are children around.
Do not leave young children unsupervised around water.
No matter where you plan to spend the festive season, at home, on holiday or somewhere in the great outdoors, I would also advise everyone to stay hydrated, slip, slop, slap, wrap and ensure you have a well-stocked first aid kit.
To all, we at St John would like to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
