Fig Tree Lane’s Barefoot Books has shown its support for the Festival of Busselton’s new initiative by erecting a scarecrow at the front of its store.
Festival organisers hope the city’s CBD will be transformed throughout January into a field of scarecrows as businesses get behind the festival’s new Scarecrow Workshops.
The new element of the annual festival has been supported by law firm Lane Buck & Higgins and aims to represent the rural sector of the community, welcome people to the town and generate activity around the CBD.
With the support of the Busselton Men’s Shed building the bases from timber donated by Whiteland Milling, workshops are being held throughout the Festival of Busselton in January.
Children are encouraged to source the clothes, wigs and accessories and to create their own scarecrow.
Festival organisers are also extending invitations for the children to bring their scarecrows to the Float Parade on Saturday, January 12 and participate in the parade.
Barefoot Books’ ‘Santa’ scarecrow will take on different looks during festival month.
Businesses throughout the town have been invited to take part in building their own scarecrow to decorate and entice people into their businesses.
Scarecrow frames will be provided free to any businesses wanting to get in the spirit.
