Busselton Repertory Club’s side-splitting show Camelot the Panto has opened at Weld Theatre.
The show, written by Ben Crocker and directed by Ingrid Windsor and Leanne Cannon, is a hilarious traditional pantomime with all the usual beloved characters, plus a few extra ones.
Princess Guinevere arrives in Camelot to marry Prince Arthur. However, just after she meets him, she is kidnapped by the henchmen of Morgan Le Fay and taken to the Misty Mountain Castle to marry King Valerin of the Tangled Wood instead. Prince Arthur, his friends (a jester, a bear and a dame) and his knights must go through the enchanted forest, the haunted hotel and the shrieking bog to try to find her.
The show’s cast is made up of 49 people aged from seven to 65 with an army of 40 backstage helpers in costume, lighting and backstage crew. Some cast members have been in up to 18 pantomimes, while others are new to the stage.
Ms Windsor said Camelot the Panto was a family friendly show for anyone who enjoyed being entertained and being a bit silly.
“You will laugh until your stomach hurts and tears roll down your face so leave the mascara at home and no pilates required that day,” she said.
“It has been the most amazing journey bringing this superbly written script to life with a stellar cast.
“I can’t wait to see the show really come to life with a vocal audience filling the theatre.”
Camelot the Panto will run until January 13, with evening and matinee shows.
