A 41-year-old man has died following Friday’s freak road accident on Bussell Highway.
Anthony Exeter, a highly respected member of the WA basketball community, was driving near Ludlow when a boat canopy from the vehicle in front detached and went through his windscreen.
His wife and two children were also in the vehicle but were unharmed.
Mr Exeter was flown by the RAC Rescue helicopter to Royal Perth Hospital.
He suffered catastrophic brain damage and passed away on Sunday evening after his life support was turned off.
His family released a statement farewelling the beloved husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, boss and friend.
“ Anthony’s defining qualities were his absolute love of life and ability to live in the moment. He found a way to make any situation fun – whether it was drinks at the pub with his friends or breaking up a squabble between his two children,” they said.
“He adored his little family unit of Kelly, Jaden and Mia, and would do anything for them.
“The Exeter and Mouttet families have been humbled by the outpouring of grief, well wishes and support.”
Mr Exeter was an inaugural member of the Rockingham Flames State Basketball League team. He was the second Australian to win MVP for the SBL competition.
The driver of the white four-wheel-drive towing the boat is assisting police officers with their inquiries.
The investigation is ongoing and police would like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the Bussell Highway in the afternoon of Friday, January 11 and who has dash cam vision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make an online report at crimestopperswa.com.au.
If anyone would like to show their support to the family, donations to rafikimwema.com would be appreciated.
