This weekend’s Art in the Park will mark 60 years of the Busselton Art Society transforming Mitchell Park into a colourful and creative open-air exhibition space.
Founded in April 1959, the society held its first Art in the Park the following year. More than 90 pieces were on show, ranging in price from two to 10 guineas.
Today, the society has grown from its then 49 members to boasting more than 100 art lovers.
The 2019 Art in the Park will feature over 300 entries from 33 artists.
Busselton Art Society president Dee Credaro said she hoped the community would show support for the region’s artists who came from ‘all walks of life’.
“We have art beginners to semi-professionals of all different tastes, talents and style,” she said.
“Talent is in the eye of the beholder and everyone is drawn to different things, I’m sure something will catch the eye of anyone who walks through Art in the Park.”
The event will include a kids art corner, artist demonstrations, a wood turning display and a belly dancing performance on the Saturday afternoon.
All artworks will be one-off originals and for sale from $10 to around $1000.
Art in the Park will be held from Friday, January 25 to Sunday, January 27 in Mitchell Park.
The official opening and awards ceremony will be held at 12.30pm on Friday, January 25.
