The Rural Clinical School Of WA Busselton has welcomed eight medical students from the University of WA and the University of Notre Dame.
The students will based in Busselton for 12 months, working out of the health campus and general practices as well as travelling to Bunbury, Margaret River and further afield in the South West.
Among the students is Wilyabrup’s Toby Jones. Mr Jones, a graduate of Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, said he was thrilled to return to the region, and didn’t rule out basing himself in the region once his studies were complete.
“I couldn’t wait to come back, going to Perth was out of necessity,” he said.
“I’m excited by the opportunity to return and practising medicine down here is something that is definitely on the cards.”
Another South West student returning to their roots is Bunbury’s Shelby Mateljan.
Mr Jones and Ms Mateljan are joined by fellow students Hilary Dorward, Shelley Dos, Sally Virgo, Jared Ball, Maia Simmonds and Adam Hudson.
The Rural Clinical School Of WA Busselton lead medical coordinator Sarah Moore said the students would benefit from one-on-one supervision, hands-on training and experience a broad spectrum of health services.
