Beach Emergency Number signs, a key feature of the local government’s shark mitigation strategy, have been installed along the coast.
Of the 90 installed, most are on City of Busselton managed coastline. However, there are some also situated on Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions land.
Each sign has a unique number which identifies the exact location of the beach.
In the event of an emergency, people can dial 000 and quote the location code.
The signs code may also be referred to when reporting shark sightings to Water Police on 9442 8600.
The new system aims to reduce response times in the case of an emergency and provide greater accuracy for the recording and relaying of shark sight information.
