The ladies bowling section of the Dunsborough and Districts Country Club held an exciting pairs championship recently.
Four teams had four wins each out of five games and the outcome depended on shots up.
On day one, Daisy Grist and Peg Howley came out on top with three wins but due to a family medical emergency Howley had to pull out of the second day competition.
She was replaced by Nina Boyne, a talented player who everyone agrees does not play enough bowls.
Having a handy lead on day two with wins and in shots up Maureen Hines and Janice Hoover paired up against Jill Winter and Megan Black.
However, both lost it on the day and went down magnificently to the Black team by a huge margin.
The Black team in turn went down by one shot to singles champion Gail Barry and novice champion Lorraine Bell.
Boyne needed to play two games with Grist and in the first game the pair lost by one shot to Denise Mott and Olive Jeanes.
Their second game proved to be the championship game which they needed to win and holding steady this team eventually won the title by five shots ahead of the Black team.
The pair acknowledged the performance of Peg Howley on the first day which helped them win the title and so the records show that three bowlers won the pairs championship.
