With just one round to go before finals, the ladder is starting to look set for some, while others can get some all important points to try to squeeze up a spot or two to play for the big trophies.
Last week the top of the table clash saw Dungbeetles beat an undermanned Band of Misfits 10-6, but with a win over the DynoWhites in the last round, Band of Misfits can ensure they play against the Dungbeetles, who are already guaranteed a spot, in the 1st vs 2nd grand final.
The Untouchables continued their late season surge with a tight 8-7 win over the DynoWhites, and play You’re It this week, with the winner claiming a spot in the third place playoff.
You’re It lost a very close game to the much improved Bush Chooks, going down by one after a big second half saw the Bush Chooks turn a half-time deficit into a win.
Unfortunately for the Big Maks, their second half of the season has seen their early form turn around.
They scraped their way to a 7-7 draw this week with the Mariners, in an up and down game in which both teams looked to be in control at different stages.
In the end the cool head of Matt Welburn proved to be the difference, crossing the line to score five times himself.
Things don’t get any easier for the Big Maks with a final game match up against the Dungbeetles, which at one stage of the season looked like it may have been a grand final preview.
Last week we also announced, and awarded our teams of the month.
Big Maks and the Band of Misfits were both presented with a bar tab card from club sponsors Darleens bar.
It is fantastic to see that in such an even and competitive competition, teams are continually playing in such a great manner, making it hard to choose the most deserving recipients.
All in all we are set up for an enthralling final round, with just three points between third and seventh spot on the ladder.
All teams will be playing in the finals, with a 7th vs 8th game, 5th vs 6th, 3rd vs 4th and the main event being 1st v 2nd.
There is plenty still on the line with most teams still having the opportunity to jump up, or slip down a spot for finals.
There are only two spots guaranteed, with the Dungbeetles in top spot, and the Mariners in eighth, although I would suggest they are far from an easy game for whoever they end up playing.
