South West Harmony Festival to take community around-the-world

A melting pot of international cultures and cuisines can be experienced in Busselton this weekend without stepping foot on a plane.

The South West Harmony Festival will be a round-the-world ticket featuring fun for the whole family.

This year, the event will be hosted at Vasse Primary School thanks to Vasse Development Partners coming on board as the festival’s major local sponsor.

The annual celebration will include Indigenous arts and crafts, story-telling and food, West African drumming workshops, children’s Flamenco workshop, Indonesian dance performances, Brazilian dance workshops and delicious tasting plates from a variety of nationalities.

Presented by the Busselton and Dunsborough Multicultural Group with the help of The Dunsborough & Districts Progress Association, the event coincides with Harmony Week - which runs from March 17 to March 23.

Vasse Estate community development officer Nicole Andrijevic said Vasse Development Partners were thrilled to bring the event to their community, which was a central point for the Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River communities.

"We see the South West Harmony Festival as a fantastic opportunity for the people of Vasse and the broader South West community to engage with world cultures," she said.

"It is all about bringing family together, people together, in a festive celebration."

Event organiser Vanessa Sabitini said she was equally excited for this weekend's event.

"Every year it has been amazing, no matter what, no matter the weather," she said.

"I've been receiving messages from people involved and they are so happy to be apart of it.

"Everyone will be coming together in harmony, which is what it is all about."

The South West Harmony Festival will be held on Sunday, March 17, at Vasse Primary School oval from 1pm to 6pm. The event is free. For more details and full program, visit vasse.com.au/south-west-harmony-festival-2019/.
