Perth artist Judy Rogers explores the human form in her latest exhibition, Body from the Suitcase, which opened at ArtGeo Gallery on March 20.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Rogers has been based in WA since 1995.
She exhibited Body from the Suitcase in St Petersburg as part of a four week residency in the Russian city.
The title is a play on words referring to Rogers’ interest in the human form and conveyance of a body of works to St Petersburg in a suitcase.
"Body from the Suitcase is not a nude show, there is skin showing but it is about how our body ages, sexuality, body image and coming of age," she said.
"It is the human body from all angles and perspectives, it is not something produced for the male gaze. A naked human body doesn't necessarily mean sex.
"There are different aspects to it - like coming of age, which is a big deal, and how we all concentrate on the outside, and there is so much pressure to run after our youth, but we forget about the inside of our body, our head and how sometimes our bodies can just let us down."
Rogers' mixed media sculptures and distinctive paintings of fragmented body parts and nudes will be on show to May 5.
Rogers will return to Busselton in May for a celebratory function for invited guests and two public events.
On May 4 there will be an introduction to portraiture workshop from 10am to 1pm and on May 5 there will be an artist’s talk from 11am to 12pm.
