The Busselton chapter of Hands Up 4 Kids is looking for more volunteers as it expands in to another local school.
The program, which sees volunteers from the community spare an hour a week to listen to students read, has recently started at Busselton Primary School.
Principal Jeremy Shepherd said all extra resources and support were welcomed in a school environment, and giving students the chance to read to a volunteer one-on-one was invaluable.
"We want the students to develop a personal love of reading. We want them to go to the town library or ours and get books out on their own accord," he said.
"It is about promoting that love of reading, so it is not just about reading for your homework or developing reading comprehension."
The school currently has three volunteers who are each paired with a class. They hope to run the program in all their classes if they can attract enough volunteers.
Hands Up 4 Kids Busselton coordinator Ron Mildenhall encouraged members of the community to get involved.
"You build a specific relationship with a classroom and this is a really great opportunity for anyone out there wanting to make a difference in a small way," he said.
