A group of fundraisers from Perth and Dunsborough will walk 130 kilometres over five days on the Cape to Cape track to raise money for Fibromyalgia Support Network of WA and Dementia Australia.
The group will be greeted by the Dunsborough Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade to also promote their message 'do not be a fire muppet.'
The trek coordinator Dunja Lewis lives with fibromyalgia and said she was mainly raising awareness and money for the organisation out of guilt.
"I have an incredibly lucky story because of the fact that I went to my GP because I had lost strength and kept getting a lot more pain," she said.
"My doctor thought she knew what it was and referred me to a rheumatologist, within three months I had a diagnosis and treatments which have been incredible and helped keep my illnesses at bay.
"All these other people wait for years and have deteriorated so far to the point where they cannot work, do not want children and have just about given up on life.
"I cannot stand back and not do anything so I want to make sure I can contribute as much as I can."
Ms Lewis said a few years ago she had the toughest time of her life and she wants to prove to herself that she does not have to give up on life because of the illnesses.
She said fibromyalgia could start out as skin sensitivity, burning sensations or pain and there could also be other symptoms like headaches and fatigue.
"For me, it goes hand-in-hand with my rheumatoid arthritis and it can take a long time before someone is diagnosed," she said.
"When I could no longer open a jar, I thought, what the hell is going on, but other people would not necessarily pick that up or see it as something wrong.
"They will just say, I am getting older, and other people will tell them to get over it or that they are just tired.
"I was not just tired, there was something wrong with me and it does get worse, when chronic fatigue sets in you start getting the brain fog which results in a whole bunch of other things."
