The Busselton and Dunsborough Volunteers of the Years were celebrated at a function on Monday evening at the City of Busselton.
Each year the awards are held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, and this year's theme was 'Making a world of difference'.
City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley said the event marked the start of the week-long celebration acknowledging the millions of volunteers who made a positive impact in their community through giving their time.
Mr Henley said volunteers were a precious resource in our community. They underpinned the delivery of many services and events, as well as fundraising for a host of worthwhile causes.
"We are very lucky to have so many people who are committed to their community and prepared to work together to make a difference," he said.
"Tonight provides an opportunity to show our appreciation to a group of individuals whose volunteer efforts often go unrecognised. Tonight they are community heroes."
Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said at the event one in three people in the Busselton and Dunsborough region had volunteered in the last year.
Forrest MP Nola Marino said small communities would not survive without the efforts of volunteers.
