A winter burning workshop will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 1 for residents and owners of special rural blocks to assist in mitigating the risk of fire in the coming summer.
Organised by the Yallingup Rural Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, the workshop is part of the Bushfire Ready program operated by the brigade.
The workshop, which will be held at the end of Cowslip Place in Yallingup, will demonstrate safe practices landowners can use to reduce fuel loads over the winter period.
Anyone living on a special rural block in the wider Yallingup, Dunsborough or Busselton areas is welcome to attend.
Brigade captain Matt Muir, who will be facilitating the workshop, said that the brigade encouraged residents to take a proactive stance on safely managing fuel loads on their properties.
"This will lead to reduced fire intensity during the fire season and in turn to better overall community and fire fighter safety," he said.
"Suitable bushfire preparedness is a critical part of the brigade's operation.
"We have found over recent years that properties which are well prepared are easier to defend and can present a less dangerous environment for my firefighters."
Lead Bushfire Ready facilitator Peter Campbell advised that the session would provide attendees with knowledge about how to use winter burning safely.
They will also be demonstrating the use of tools and techniques which landowners can use, including the use of community's fire trailer which is available to residents at a modest hire cost.
"The workshop will have a very practical orientation," he said.
"Under the guidance of senior firefighters, we will not only see how to safely conduct our own burns, but we will also have a first-class opportunity to ask all related questions of the experts who will be on hand."
