The Shire of Capel has come to a decision over the proposed rate increase for the upcoming draft budget.
Following intense debate on Monday, June 17, council moved to discuss the recommendation at another time.
Councillors and community members came together for a special meeting at the shire's headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Presented during the meeting, the recommendation called for council to approve a 3 per cent increase in pre-growth rates yield, in accordance with Section 3.63 of the Local Government Act 1995.
Recognising the shire's list of achievements, councillor Jennifer Scott spoke highly of the motion.
Councillors Murray Scott, Barry Bell, Brian Hearne, Debbie Radisich, Doug Kitchen, and Sebastian Schiano also voiced their support for it.
Council voted 7/0 to approve the increase.
The shire's next ordinary meeting of council will be held on Wednesday, June 26.
