John Higgins shaping up as a classic

Busselton mare Purest Silk secured her spot in the final when taking out the heat run at Bunbury on Friday night.

Coming off a last start victory against stronger company in the city she would start an obvious favourite from barrier two and with second favourite and main danger Athabascan galloping at the start the mare strolled to the lead and winning by five metres for champion reinsman Chris Lewis and trainer Barry Howlett.

The Barry Howlett stable had two other winners for the week the first coming at Pinjarra with Delightful Mandy who was resuming from a spell.

The daughter of Bettors Delight showed gate speed to be facing the breeze and hold off the opposition scoring by two metres.

The stable follows that result on Tuesday night when Millwood Gucci won what looked to win easy by three lengths.

Talented three-year-olds Gold Horseshoe and Cheer The Major went head to head at Pinjarra on Monday with The Colin Reeves trained youngster proving to strong over the concluding stages.

Cheer The Major would lead and Gold Horseshoe would settle last and entering the bell Morgan Woodley set the chestnut gelding forward and it looked a good contest up the straight with Gold Horseshoe getting the upper hand to give Busselton a race quinella.

There was plenty of place getters over the week, Millwood Polly would record another placing, inconvenienced after the start she would chase hard at the good price of $23 for third.

Sammys Ideal is building up to another win with a second on Friday night, starting at $31 and racing at the rear he would get home hard to be only beaten two metres.

Songster was having his first career start at age four and showed some promise in finishing third from barrier seven.

Newman returned to the trial scene at Bunbury and the Brad Chinnery gelding showed he was in for a good season coming from well back to win by a half head in good time.
