The Under 16 Busselton Magpies met Mercy Leschenault Collie (MLC) at the Geographe Leisure Centre on Saturday, July 20.
The MLC squad had improved significantly since the teams met earlier in the season, and with several players missing from the Magpies lineup due to the school holiday period, coach Beth Stokes encouraged her young charges to not take their opposition lightly.
MLC came out hard, and scored the first three goals of the match, catching the Magpies off-guard, before Busselton settled.
Jaimee Lyons stepped up for her first outing with the team for the season, and fitted in beautifully, combining with seasoned defender, Kalani Bate-Henry.
The Magpies meet Carey Park at the Southwest Sports Centre next weekend, as they head into the business end of the South West Netball Football League 2019 season.

Jenna Begley put on her usual powerhouse performance through the centre, sagging off her player just enough to lure a pass, that could then be intercepted.
Despite an unsettled start, the Magpies held a handy lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-8.
The second quarter started with some lightning passages of play.
The Magpies shooters still looked a little unsettled, however, the defence was magnificent; Jordan Sapsford's passing was stellar; and Nikira Brock was shooting beautifully from long range.
Busselton extended their lead, going into the half-time break with a handy lead, 26-13.
The third quarter saw Felicity Watson step into the centre, and the squad came out firing.
Sally Conroy was shooting accurately, Sapsford continued to deliver the ball with pinpoint accuracy, and there were some lovely forays into attack, with the team pouring on 17 goals for the term.
The Magpies defence continued to be solid, despite several regular squad members being absent.
The final quarter saw Emma Jackson re-enter the game in attack, and Busselton added another 18 goals during the final quarter.
Lyons continued to force turnovers at the defensive end, and the team secured a percentage boosting win, 61-26.
