The hallowed turf of Barnard Park in Busselton will lay the foundations for an epic grand final on Saturday August 3 between to old rugby stalwarts, the Dunsborough Busselton Dungbeetles and Margaret River Gropers.
In a proud history and a rivalry spanning 23 years, both clubs have amassed 20 premierships between them, at 10 each.
In 2019 one club will be crowned with premiership number 11 and most importantly bragging rights, and to the victor the spoils.
This year also marks a great milestone for the Dungbeetles Rugby Club in only their second year in their new club house, they will be hosting their first home grand final at Barnard Park in Busselton.
In a preseason that started back in early February, coaching staff, Barnaby Mills and Brendan Thomson have managed to form a team that were willing to put in the hard yards to give themselves the opportunity to contest the South-West rugby championship.
The Dungbeetles team for the final is one of the most balanced teams seen in a very long time, with a strong, mobile and defensive forward pack, and out wide to a sleek footed, fly half, first 5/8, second 5/8 and a powerful outside centre with two strong wingers and a hard running full back.
Twelve rounds of rugby have set the bench mark for the grand final, no inch or quarter will be given easily by either team, but one thing that is guaranteed - this grand final will be one for the ages.
Who are we?
The Mighty Dungbeetles rugby team.
Also, to mark the occasion the Junior Beetles Under 12s will host a Bunbury invitational to be the curtain raiser at 1.45pm before the grand final at 3pm.
The Beetle Juice Bar n Grill will be open from 2pm, fully licensed. All inquiries welcome to Wayne 0405 477 752 or Wendy 0477 418 827.
Anyone with a responsible service of alcohol license willing to volunteer for a few hours from 2pm to 5.30pm would be kindly appreciated, to give our loyal Dungbeetle bar staff a chance to watch our home final.
