Moving to a city from the bush can be a daunting experience without the network of family and friends that were once so familiar.
It was no different for former Busselton resident Tom Evans who moved to Perth after he completed Year 12 at Georgiana Molloy School.
The experience inspired Mr Evans to start a podcast about health, fitness and mindset ranging from strength conditioning to mental health.
"The SOTA Process is a podcast with tips and tools to help people become state of the art and be a better person," he said.
"I was at a pretty low point in my life after I left home and moved to Perth, I was completely lost with what I wanted to do.
"It was pretty lonely to start with, I did not know anyone and I had not started university so I did not have any avenues to make friends.
"I did not really have any passions and I started looking into motivational and inspirational videos on YouTube to get me going."
Mr Evans said he stumbled across inspirational people who got him into personal development, mindset and fitness training.
"I used to have a negative mindset and was a bit egocentric, I did not have much perspective about the rest of the world and other people," he said.
"It has definitely taught me gratitude and that has now become a way of life, everything I do is filled with gratitude and understanding for other people and their perspective.
"Training yourself to become mentally tough is important to get through those dark or tough moments in your life so they do not really have an effect on you and you can get through them with ease."
Mr Evans has now been living in Perth for about 18 months, has started university and enjoys the responsibility that life brings.
His podcast The SOTA Process was recently released on Stitcher and Spotify, and is awaiting iTunes approval.
