Communication expert Phill Cronin has nominated in the local government election for a seat on the City of Busselton Council.
Mr Cronin sits on the board of the Busselton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the South-West CCI and attends Dunsborough Yallingup CCI events.
He said for him there were three key areas for council which included governance, delivering strategy and building community.
"Governance means that decisions made by council were correct and done with the right reasoning to achieve a bigger goal," he said.
For developments such as the Busselton Entertainment Arts Culture Hub, Mr Cronin said it was important to construct a multi-purpose building so it could be used for one thing during the day and another at night.
"If it cost more to make seats retractable, it would be cheaper than having a second building with two lots of air-conditioners, rates, managers etc," he said.
"It would be better to have something occupied for a lot more time rather than a theatre that was only used in the evenings and occasionally during the day."
Another vision Mr Cronin felt was important was turning Busselton's nightlife around so it was buzzing after 8pm rather than walking down Queen Street with tumbleweed.
"They did it up in Darwin where they built an area on the water which is now buzzing, you can walk along and stroll into town to the restaurants," he said.
While Mr Cronin felt community could not be forced onto people, a community could be made through good communication.
"A lot of councils are not very good at communicating what was going on, or being transparent," he said.
Mr Cronin said the next thing to look at would be issues that affected the community such as crime and people feeling safe.
